
Franklin, established in 1872, is the county seat of Robertson County and is centrally located among the Dallas, Houston, Austin and San Antonio metroplexes. US79 is the major highway that serves Franklin. Starting near Texarkana, US79 crosses all of East Texas ending in the Austin Metroplex. The central location of Franklin allows the best of both worlds – the shopping and arts offered in large cities and the luxury of quiet country living.
The City of Franklin has a population of 1,560 people, and is proud of its exemplary school system and tight knit community. Franklin ISD is a 2A school that was rated exemplary by the Texas Education Agency in 2009-2010. There are three campuses Roland Reynolds Elementary-Pre-K to 5th grade, Franklin Middle School-6th to 8th grade, Franklin High School-9th to 12th grade.

Camp Creek Lake is located about thirteen miles southeast of Franklin in Robertson County, on Camp Creek, a tributary of the Navasota River which is a tributary of the Brazos River. The lake was developed by the Camp Creek Water Company for recreational purpose. Construction began in August 1948 and was completed on January 3, 1949. The reservoir has an original capacity of 8,550 acre-feet and a surface area of 750 acres at an elevation of 310 feet above mean sea level. The dam controls a drainage area of 40 square miles.
